Sweet Hot Mess, a show curated by Rudy Fig and Katie Carpenter for the Cult Status Gallery in Minneapolis, is an amazing show where several artists were asked to create art based on sweets and then several baker were asked to create sweets based on that art. I went with a cake of meat inspired by the cake paintings of Wayne Thiebaud. Check out the side view, as well as what the awesome baker, Lynne, concocted to accompany the painting. Prints here.
Wooly Walter White
Monday, August 20th, 2012Tonight, August 20th, is the opening of the Breaking Bad Art Project at Gallery1988 Melrose. I am a huge fan of the show and it was a lot of fun thinking of what to do for the show. I ended up going with a Walter White version of the old Wooly Willy game since the character seemed to have so many hair issues over the seasons. The piece is actually functional! I added a few pics of my attempts to draw haircuts on him below.

Tonight, Friday the 13th, is the opening for Hitchcock themed show “Suspense & Gallows Humor” at Gallery1988 Venice. I’ve always loved the movie Vertigo for many reasons, including all of the San Francisco backdrops. Look at all them Jimmy Stewarts.
Sweet Streets

The annual Sweet Streets show opens Saturday, November 19th, at the WWA gallery in Los Angeles. The theme for the show is 1980′s American pop influence on modern Japanese fashion. Now, I can’t tell you much about fashion, but I sure do love the 80′s/90′s look of Masamune Shirow’s swimsuit clad women operating heavy machinery. Intron Depot 1 changed my life when I was a little tween. Come down to the opening and see the great lineup of artists! Prints available here, and here.

Last Thursday, my friends at the Las Vegas vintage shop The Gypsy Den put on a show to help raise some rent money. Several local artists were given mannequins to paint and thankfully I received the creepiest one. This is the result. Before pics and hipstamatics below… (more…)
